The Detroit Pistons tried hard, but ultimately suffered their 28th-straight loss on Thursday night.
Entering the matchup against the Boston Celtics as 16.5-point underdogs, Detroit actually led the NBA’s best team by 19 points at halftime and as many as 21 points during the game only to lose 128-122 in overtime.
“It was one heck of an effort. But the Pistons drop their 28th straight. Which does tie the longest losing streak in NBA history,” said the Bally Sports Detroit home broadcast at the conclusion of the latest defeat.

With one more loss, Detroit will surpass the 28-game run of futility “The Process” Philadelphia 76ers put together across the end of the 2014-15 and beginning of 2015-16 seasons.
The Pistons’ young backcourt of Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey was a bright spot Thursday, with Cunningham scoring a team-high 31 points on 12-of-22 shooting to go along with nine assists and Ivey adding 22 points and 10 rebounds.
Veteran swingman Bojan Bogdanovic also chipped in 17 points, 12 rebounds and six assists. Ultimately, it wasn’t enough, as Kristaps Porzingis (35 points) and Jayson Tatum (31 points) led the way for the Celtics, who improved to 24-6 on the season and 15-0 at home.
Detroit, meanwhile, fell to 2-29.
