Calls poured in for the NFL to investigate the Cleveland Browns following their 31-29 loss to the Tennessee Titans.
The Browns mounted a late surge, punching in two fourth-quarter touchdowns to claw their way back into the game. But Cleveland’s decision to chase two-point conversions — twice — turned the rally into a self-inflicted collapse.
The first attempt unraveled instantly, ending in a fumble that Tennessee nearly turned into a defensive two points the other way. The second was even tougher to explain: a puzzling gadget caplayl gone wrong. Cleveland attempted a reverse that never quite reversed, leaving running back Quinshon Judkins holding the ball after failing to hand it off before lofting a desperate cross-field pass that fell incomplete.
“Browns purposely threw this game,” one fan said . “Down 14 and score TD and go for two? Then score again and run a gimmick play that looked like that. Yeah NFL needs to investigate. They are bad but this is suspect. What’s the gambling lines also. Over/under and such.”
“If we kicked the PAT the touchdown before, we wouldn’t need to be going for two now. Need to investigate this (expletive). Makes no sense,” another said .
Browns Take Out Shedeur Sanders for Key Play
Many took issue with the fact that the final two-point try took Shedeur Sanders off the field. Sanders showed off some impressive touch on two touchdowns inside the 10-yard line to Harold Fannin and David Njoku.
“The NFL needs to investigate Kevin Stefanski and why he doesn’t want Shedeur Sanders
to succeed,” a fan said
. “Instead of a gadget play put the ball in your quarterbacks hand who just got you the touchdown. He is blatantly sabotaging not only Shedeur but the Browns too.”
“Stefanski bet against the Browns today,” another added . “That’s the only explanation for taking Sanders off the field on the two-point conversion. No coach in their right mind would ever call that play.”
Sanders finished the game with 364 yards, three passing touchdowns and a highlight reel rushing touchdown. NFL insider Josina Anderson gave a scathing commentary on the final play call.
“With Shedeur Sanders OFF the field in the red zone, the Browns inexplicably call this totally unnecessary gadget play contrary to all common sense, logic and what was working in the red zone —whilst missing another opportunity to give Sanders another red zone look after he just drove them down the field,” Anderson said . “Not sure what point is being made here…except costing the game potentially.”
Browns Improve Draft Position With Loss
The Browns fell to 3-10 with the defeat — a loss that, while meaningless in the playoff race, carries weight in the long-term picture. Cleveland was out of contention, but the setback tightened their grip on a premium draft slot, dropping them behind only the Titans, Giants and Raiders — each sitting on two wins — in the current order.
Cleveland now holds the No. 4 pick with four tough games remaining against the NFC-leading Bears, followed by the Bills, Steelers and Bengals. It’s not unrealistic to imagine the Browns finishing winless down the stretch, a scenario that could push them into contention for the No. 1 overall selection.
With the loss, Cleveland’s odds of landing the top pick climbed to 14% according to ESPN. That number could keep rising if the slide continues.
