The Detroit Pistons will not stand alone with the longest losing streak in NBA history. Not now at any rate.
After 28 straight losses and a bunch of close calls, the Pistons were finally able to finish the job and get the win against the Toronto Raptors tonight.
Detroit won the game 129-127 thanks to big performances from Cade Cunningham, Jalen Duren, Bojan Bogdanovic, Kevin Knox and Alec Burks – all of whom had at least 16 points in the win.
Toronto gave the Pistons everything they could handle, with four of their own players going over 20 points in the game.
With the win, the Pistons are now 3-29 on the season. But their record-tying losing streak of 28 games will end right there.

Going into the game, a loss to Toronto would have set a new record for consecutive losses in NBA history. The record of 28 was set by the Philadelphia 76ers between the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.
A few days ago, the Pistons set a new NBA record for consecutive losses in a single season after blowing a big lead against the Boston Celtics.
The Pistons clearly weren’t content to make history in all of the worst ways.
Of course, with more than 50 NBA games still to play, there’s still the possibility that the Pistons could start a brand new losing streak once the new year begins.
But for now, they’ve got at least one monkey off their back.
