Best Fits For Tyrese Proctor In The 2025 NBA Draft

April 3, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Basketball

Tyrese Proctor is a first-round prospect in the NBA draft.

The Duke Blue Devils make another Final Four appearance due to the efforts of their players. Specifically, all three of Cooper Flagg , Kon Knueppel , and Khaman Maluach have had a massive impact on the team’s success. Given their skills and talent , all of them will likely be lottery picks . However, another guy who has been an impact player for Duke has been junior guard Tyrese Proctor . His ability to shoot the ball, play defense, and serve as a tertiary playmaker has been a consistently steady force for Duke. Due to his collection of skills, Proctor will have interest among NBA teams, especially those in the second round. Let’s dive into the best fits for Tyrese Proctor among teams in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Best Fits for Tyrese Proctor in the 2025 NBA Draft

Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers make a perfect fit for Proctor, even though the team would have to trade up in the draft to get him. In particular, Proctor’s 3-and-D skill set at the guard position will fit well next to players like Austin Reaves and Luka Doncic . The Lakers need a guard who can both knock down open threes and defend along the perimeter. Proctor has played well in that role with Duke, so he can fit nicely into the same role with the Lakers. Furthermore, the Lakers also need a guard who can pass and handle the ball off the bench. That is something that Proctor can also provide as he has shown on-ball skills in the pick-and-roll.

On Proctor’s end, the roster construction of the Lakers will amplify the best parts of his game. The combination of Reaves, Doncic, and LeBron James will allow Proctor many opportunities for open shots. All three of them have the passing skills to find Proctor out on the perimeter. Additionally, given that each of the Lakers stars operates well with the ball in their hands, Proctor won’t be burdened with much on-ball responsibility from the start. Overall, Proctor will fit well on this iteration of the Lakers.

Detroit Pistons

The Detroit Pistons are another team that Proctor fits well on. The Pistons can use a two-way guard off the bench who can knock down threes. While Detroit does have great three-point shooters on the roster, none of them are good defenders. Proctor can be that versatile two-way player for the Pistons. Additionally, Proctor’s passing skills can help alleviate some of the playmaking burden from Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey . Proctor himself will benefit from playing with Cunningham, who can get him great looks. Plus, Detroit has strong defenders who can help out Proctor by guarding the stronger players he struggles with. Ultimately, there are clear areas where both Proctor and the Pistons can help each other.

San Antonio Spurs

Given the needs of the roster, Proctor will fit well on the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs are a team that needs more floor spacing around their stars. Not only that but additional defensive personnel at the guard position is also needed. In both areas, Proctor can help fill those needs while also bringing ball-handling and secondary playmaking. Speaking of San Antonio’s stars, Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox can get Proctor many good looks from the amount of attention they command from defenses. Also, Wembanyama anchoring the paint can help provide defensive support for Proctor against stronger players. For both the team and Proctor, the fit between them is clear.
