Andre Drummond: When I retire, I want to finish in Detroit… Detroit is home for me

October 17, 2024 by Hoops Hype

Andre Drummond: “My time in Detroit was historic, man. I grew up so much there. I met some of my best friends there. I built a relationship with the fan base and the community in Detroit. I always said I want to finish my career there. When I retire, I want to finish in Detroit, because that’s where I started, and I want to finish there. Detroit is home for me. I still have a house in Detroit because of the connection I have with the city. I went there at 17, and by the time I left, I was 27, 28. It was a place where I became a man. I feel like the city embraced me, and I embraced the city. Detroit is special to me. I want to retire a Piston. That’s always been my goal.”

Jordi Fernandez on how he thought Noah Clowney fared against Andre Drummond:
“I thought he didn’t fight hard enough… It’s definitely a challenge, but I would have liked to see a better fight. And it’s not just Noah, it’s everyone… If we don’t play hard as a team we’re just pic.x.com/70XQGXQnzq – 9:59 PM

54-48 Sixers at halftime. Tyrese Maxey is the only scorer in double-figures, but he hasn’t done it efficiently. Each team has a dozen turnovers (Trae Young has five).

More on this storyline

Andre Drummond: “My rebounding? That’s always been there, but I didn’t understand how good I was at it until I got to the NBA. I used to think I got rebounds because I was just bigger than everyone. But then I started studying the game. I’d watch how our guys shoot, how the ball comes off the rim. I know how a miss will come off based on the type of shot it is. So, when you watch me play, I’m always looking at who’s shooting, and I start moving. I’m always in motion once it comes to rebounding. I’ll spend hours watching our shooters, just so I know where to be when they miss. It’s all about anticipation and positioning. Rebounding is part God-given talent, but it’s also a skill I’ve worked to perfect.” -via YouTube / October 17, 2024
Andre Drummond: “When I got to Cleveland, I had a chip on my shoulder. I felt like I had to prove that I was still that guy. After the Detroit situation, I felt like I needed to establish my dominance from day one. I wasn’t going to let anyone question me. I wanted to be a leader, and I didn’t want to make the same mistakes twice. In Cleveland, I learned a lot about myself. I was playing with a chip on my shoulder because I was angry about how things ended in Detroit. I always said I’d play my whole career in Detroit, so when that didn’t happen, it stung. But I used that as motivation. I went to Cleveland with the mindset of showing the world that I’m still Andre Drummond, still a dominant force.” -via YouTube / October 17, 2024
“What you have to be always ready for is, at these numbers, will you say yes instantly,” Morey said. “Because if you don’t, they’ll go somewhere else.” Drummond was the first to commit, an early coup because Morey thought the former Sixer would attract a stronger market. Then came Gordon, making him the latest former Houston Rocket to reunite with Morey with the Sixers. And as the evening transitioned to late night, Oubre decided to return to the team where he had already established a relationship and comfort. -via The Philadelphia Inquirer / October 17, 2024
