An arrest warrant has been issued for Detroit Lions cornerback Cameron Sutton in Hillsborough County, Florida.
In a public request for information, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said that Sutton is wanted for Aggravated Battery – Domestic Violence. The HCSO said that he is likely driving a Jeep Grand Wagoneer.
“The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office needs your assistance in locating a wanted subject: Cameron Sutton, 29. He is wanted for Aggravated Battery – Domestic Violence…” the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office wrote on X .
It has been confirmed that the Cameron Sutton that the HCSO are seeking is the same one who plays for the Lions. Further information on the details surrounding the warrant are not currently available.
Sutton was a third-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He played his first six seasons in Pittsburgh before signing a three-year, $33 million free agent contract with the Lions in 2023.
In 2023, he started all 17 regular season games and their three postseason games, recording one interception and nine passes defended over those 20 games.
As of writing, the Lions have not yet released a public statement on the arrest warrant nor their roster plans for Sutton.
Given the circumstances, it seems likely that Sutton will be placed on the commissioner’s exempt list or receive some other form of punishment by the league regardless of what the court decisions are on his status in the days and weeks to come.
We will provide more updates as they become available.
