We accomplished a lot in 2024. What was your favorite Pride of Detroit moment of the year?
We here at Pride of Detroit are always trying to elevate our game year after year. The sports media business is growing and evolving every single moment, and if we just produced the same content every season, we’d fall behind.
The 2024 Detroit Lions season was not only momentous for the franchise itself, but for us here at POD. We expanded the staff, threw multiple live events, expanded our coverage via the Pride of Detroit Direct newsletter, and had several pieces of content that went above and beyond our typical offerings.
We’ll get back to the Detroit Lions awards in the upcoming days, but let us spike the football a bit with our the POD award for Pride of Detroit Moment of the Year.
Previous awards:
- Breakout Player of the Year
- Special Teams Player of the Year
- Rookie of the Year
- Coach of the Year
- Game of the Year
Pride of Detroit Moment of the Year
Ryan Mathews: Live PODcast at the Majestic Theater
What else is there to say about the biggest night in the history of our podcast—your podcast? Seeing how many people showed up to support us and our cause, Mina Kimes and Herman Moore dropping by, it was really special. Earlier in the year, a live show—something we’d wanted to do for years—seemed so far away. A few months later and I’m walking down Woodward, on the way to the live show that seemed like it was never going to happen.
To all the POD community that showed up, all of the POD staff, my friends and loved ones, it’s hard to find the words to say how much that meant to me. Thank you, truly.
Al Karsten: Live PODcast at the Majestic Theater
At the Majestic Theater on December 4, amidst a sea of loyal POD fans, the heroes of POD were in their element on stage as they welcomed their first guest of the night—ESPN’s Mina Kimes. Surrounded by fellow Pride of Detroit team members, the crowd was in awe of Kimes’ digital arrival, making the moment feel larger than life. It was a significant accomplishment for the hardest-working group of Lions media members.
Ty Schalter: Live PODcast at the Majestic Theater
I’ve been reading Pride of Detroit for over 15 years. And though I’m biased, having just joined the site this season, I feel like it was a monumental one. But above all the huge moments, the Live PODCast stood out—not just because of the energy, the vibe, the charity, the beer, the killer venue and the incredible special guests—but because we got to hang out face-to-face with the readers and colleagues who made it special the entire way.
Erik Schlitt: Live PODcast at the Majestic Theater
The Pride of Detroit podcast went through a whirlwind in 2024. After being canceled—right before the NFL Draft —due to sweeping changes made by SB Nation, the podcast rose from the ashes during training camp. Things were shifted around but the support from listeners was overwhelming and SB Nation took notice. The massive response led to us performing a live show during the season, and once again, the response was overwhelming—both from fans and the site contributors who came out to support us. In the end, the event was one that I will remember for a lifetime.

The PODcast has been a permanent fixture in my life for a very long time, getting me through long road trips, layovers at the airport, tedious homework assignments, and just about anything else that would suck without something to listen to for long periods of time. Getting the news last April that the PODcast was shutting down was gut-wrenching as a long-time listener. Simply put, there’s no other Lions podcast out there that can compete with the work that Chris, Jeremy, and Ryan do. Just four months later, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, the show was back just in time for training camp to begin.
Hamza Baccouche: Return of the PODcast
The return of the PODcast, baby. Detroit Lions coverage just isn’t the same without it, and I’m glad it’s intact.
John Whiticar: Live PODcast at the Majestic Theater
It’s truly incredible to see how far the PODcast has come over the years. Just recently, it looked like the show was dead in the water. Not only did it weather the storm, but it has achieved unprecedented highs. A live show in front of an audience was a pipe dream and subtle joke for the longest time, but not only did it happen, it was wildly successful too.
Meko Scott: Live PODcast at the Majestic Theater
The work this team puts in to make Movember such a huge event will always be special to me, but to see Jeremy, Ryan, Chris and Erik cap it off with a live PODcast was incredible. Before joining the staff I was a fan of these guys like many of you and to see them on that stage doing what they love was so cool and inspiring. Not to mention meeting a few of you in person and hearing how much you’ve enjoyed the content me and Morgan have put out. Easily a top-three POD moment for me.
Brandon Knapp: Live watch party/meet-and-greet in Detroit
That was my favorite moment because I got to meet fans of the website, some of my friends were able to make it and meet the POD team. Watching football together and sharing thoughts, ideas, opinions just made the day fun. The food was great too, can’t forget that part either!
Morgan Cannon: Live PODcast at the Majestic Theater
For me it was definitely having the live recording of the PoDcast at the Majestic Theatre in Detroit. The crew did a great job of getting everything together, a ton of money was raised, the venue was dope, and the pizza was delicious. What more could you ask for?
Jeremy Reisman: Live PODcast at the Majestic Theater
Continuing Movember is the highest priority for me, because I strive to use this platform for as much good in the world as possible. This year, Movember had a very significant meaning to me, as we funded men’s cancer research for the Rogel Cancer Center . Having lost my dad to cancer over eight years ago, I wanted to do everything I could to make this the most successful Movember to date.
A live PODcast was something we had always strived to do, but it seemed like that dream was permanently dead when the show was cancelled last spring. For the PODcast not only to come back, but finally accomplish our dream of a live show, it was an incredible swing of emotions.
The show took months of preparation and an entire team to make it work. From the planning stage collaborating with SB Nation employees, to the incredible staff at the Majestic Theater, to the unbelievable work done by the production team (HIRE THEM HERE ), the show went off without a single hiccup.
On top of raising over $50,000 for a cause close to me, I also grew closer to the fan base. I’ll never forget the energy in the room that night, the hands I shook, and the stories told by fans in the audience. At this point, I consider it the pinnacle of my professional career, and it’s not going to be easy to top.
