Video: Who is more likely to surpass their rookie output: LaPorta or Gibbs?

Meko and Morgan debate whether tight end Sam LaPorta or running back Jahmyr Gibbs is more likely to surpass their rookie campaigns.

2023 was a special season for the Detroit Lions in just about every way. The team piled up wins, made it the conference championship, and the atmosphere at Ford Field reached new heights as well. A big part of the success could be directly tied to a lot of the young players on the Lions’ roster, including their historic 2023 rookie class.

In the next video that myself and my friend Meko Scott recorded for the Pride of Detroit YouTube Channe l, we focus on two players from the aforementioned 2023 class—running back Jahmyr Gibbs and tight end Sam LaPorta. Is it possible for both players to surpass their rookie numbers and performance? And if so, who is more likely to do so?

Make no mistake about it—expectations were high for both Gibbs and LaPorta from the moment they arrived in Detroit. Gibbs was selected 12th overall in the first-round of the 2023 NFL Draft , while LaPorta was selected 34th overall.

It took Gibbs a few weeks to get a feel for the pro game in 2023, while LaPorta seemed to catch on right away, quickly becoming one of Lions’ quarterback Jared Goff’s favorite targets.

You can watch the entire video below where Meko and I present our points, and give our own reasoning why Gibbs or LaPorta can take their game to new heights in 2023.
