Teddy Bridgewater is content with walking away from the NFL once the 2023 season comes to a close.
Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reported Saturday morning that Bridgewater will retire after this season. The veteran quarterback plans on coaching high school football.
Bridgewater, 31, started his NFL career with the Vikings in 2014. He was the No. 32 overall pick in that year’s draft.
Unfortunately for Bridgewater, a devastating knee injury prevented him from reaching his full potential in Minnesota. After a very brief stint with the Jets, he was traded to the Saints to be Drew Brees’ backup.
In 2019, Bridgewater had the chance to start five games because Brees suffered a thumb injury. The Louisville product didn’t disappoint, owning a 5-0 record.
Bridgewater’s production in 2019 earned him a three-year, $63 million contract from the Panthers.

Following a one-year stint with the Panthers, Bridgewater spent time with the Broncos and Dolphins. He then signed with the Lions in August of 2023.
Coaches and players around the league have raved about Bridgewater’s character.
We wish Bridgewater all the best as he gets ready to enter the next chapter of his career.
