POD staff picks for the “Thursday Night Football” matchup between the New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Rams.
The NFL will once again provide fans with a litany of football viewing options over the next five days, and everything kicks off in Week 16 on “Thursday Night Football” with a matchup between two 7-7 teams with playoff aspirations: New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Rams .
These two teams have faced off 78 times in their teams’ histories, with Los Angeles holding a 42-34 regular season advantage. Each team has also tallied a win over the other in the postseason. Fun fact, the home team has won this matchup in each of the last eight contests, with New Orleans winning their most recent game, in 2022.
While this game has obvious playoff implications for the Saints and Rams, it also represents a potential playoff berth for the Detroit Lions . At 10-4 and with only three regular season games remaining, the Lions will be guaranteed a spot in the postseason if the Saints win or the game ends in a tie.
Because the Lions have already beaten the Saints, New Orleans cannot mathematically catch the Lions, due to the NFL’s tiebreaker rules. But because the Lions have not faced off against the Rams this season, there are a variety of ways the Rams could secure the tiebreaker if they end up with the same record as the Lions.
The folks over at DraftKings Sportsbook are favoring the Rams by just over a field goal in this matchup and as nice as it would be to see the Lions lock up a playoff spot, the Pride of Detroit staff is expecting the Rams to not only win this game but also cover the spread.
