Three Possible Landing Spots for 2,000-Yard Playmaker

March 21, 2024 by Last Word On Pro Football

Possible landing spots for Reynolds

Here are three possible landing spots for 2,000-yard playmaker and former Detroit Lion wide receiver, Josh Reynolds as he’s one of the best available wideouts in free agency . The Lions entered the free-agent market with the most cap space, but never brought Reynolds back. Reynolds notched 40 receptions, 608 receiving yards and five touchdowns in 17 games including 13 starts in his 2023 season campaign.

He also was second among the team’s wideouts in the three major receiving categories, including leading the team with a 15.2 yards per catch average. Reynolds re-signed with the Lions two years ago on an affordable two-year, $6 million contract. His price tag is expected to go up regardless as he’s still a cost-effective veteran receiver for any team that needs a playmaker. Instead, he’ll be remembered for his NFC Championship game disappointing performance in a loss against the 49ers.

Reynolds dropped three passes in the matchup, including a throw from Jared Goff on a pivotal fourth-down conversion in the third quarter. This memory could be the last time anyone sees Reynolds in a Lions uniform. However, he’s been consistent all year and established himself as a top receiver that anyone can add to their wideout corps. Yet, he won’t be remembered for the campaign he had despite all the success he had pairing with Amon-Ra St. Brown.

There has been a lot of buzz surrounding Odell Beckham Jr. and where may land, but Reynolds continues to be a sleeper name for many throughout the league. He may not have it in prime-time moments yet, but his consistency could be what teams need to bolster their roster. Here are three possible landing spots for Josh Reynolds this offseason.

Three Possible Landing Spots for 2,000-Yard Playmaker Josh Reynolds

Miami Dolphins

Despite the Dolphins planning to host Odell Beckham Jr. for a visit , they could look elsewhere for a cheaper wideout. Reynolds could be the name in their sights as he still has the hands and ability to catch the ball. They would probably need to shy away from looking at his playoff outing, but he’s consistent when it counts. After a couple of dropped passes, it takes more than one game to see if a player can play to their true potential.

The Dolphins would need to think for the future of their offense. They don’t have room to really fit all-star playmakers like Beckham in one with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. It may be nice to have that, but come contract and playing time, it’s a different story. Reynolds isn’t a superstar like them by any means but he’s an above-average receiver that can put on a show on the field.

Reynolds is one of those players that can create big plays after catching the football. It makes a little more sense for Miami to grab Reynolds over OBJ due to their long-term future. If the Dolphins decide to sign Beckham, it would likely be a one-year deal as opposed to a long-term contract.

Baltimore Ravens

After no plans of bringing Beckham back, They’re left with a hole in their depth chart at receiver. It may be safe to say that it’s not looking good despite having Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman and Nelson Agholor. Agholor signing another one-year extension shows that the team isn’t ready to give him a long-term contract. This could open eyes that they’re still looking for their next wideout to complement Flowers on the opposing side.

Signing Reynolds to a long-term deal like two or three years could move the Ravens in the right direction. Reynolds is a reliable chain mover with 57 of 68 catches going for first downs and at a bargain rate

Dallas Cowboys

This destination seems unlikely since there haven’t been any rumors of the Cowboys signing another free agent. It’s been a ghost town in Dallas after signing just Eric Kendricks to a one-year deal to replace Leighton-Vander Esch. However, it’s never too late for America’s team to make its first “all-in” move of the offseason.  Cowboys releasing Gallup shows they’re looking for a wideout and Reynolds could go cheap.
