Everything lined up, everything worked and yeah the Lions are the best team this year.
Football has become cynical, deathly so. Only the best quarterbacks, only the top stories, culture means winning and not much else. When Dan Campbell came to town, it was far from that; a hope that things could change, a will to built culture and a new way for a franchise everyone had dismissed.
And for his trouble, the stakes couldn’t be set much higher than the end of the season. The Minnesota Vikings had refused to budge from chasing the Detroit Lions , and so the biggest damn game in the land was set. The Lions didn’t just show up, they crushed the Vikings, sent them screaming to Los Angeles and got some well-earned rest and the top seed.
On this episode of the Pride of Detroit PODcast, we talk about the best Lions regular season in history—15 wins, a second straight division crown and the no. 1 seed. How did it happen? Well, there’s a lot to it, but we start with Sunday night against the Minnesota Vikings and the best performance this year from the Lions defense. Alex Anzalone’s return factored heavily into it, but so were a few other things going right. Jahmyr Gibbs lit up the night, yeah sure let’s talk about it.
The season was special, and we talk about what it all meant. Most importantly: how this reaffirms the past three years for the Campbell/Holmes regime, and where things look with a first-round bye, injuries and prospective opponents in the divisional round.
