Texans Get Encouraging Update From Playmaking Pro Bowl Addition

June 12, 2025 by Heavy

The Houston Texans got four-time Pro Bowl running back Nick Chubb on the practice field for the final day of mandatory minicamp, and he offered plenty of insight into his decision to join the team, his new teammates and coaches, and his health.

The latter is a big factor, with Chubb coming off knee and foot injuries that limited him in 2023 and 2024.

Chubb says he feels better than he has in years, which is great news for the Texans.

“I feel good,” Chubb told reporters on June 11. “I would say that’s all behind me, and injuries happen. And with what I did, [it] takes about two years to really get back. And so, I’m over the hump. I’m back home. I was back home all offseason, training where I trained every year since I was in high school, and I was able to get a full year in of doing the things that I do best. So, now I’m feeling good as I have been in a long time.”

Chubb said he knew he was healthy when he was able to hit certain landmarks.

“I hit all my numbers that I usually do in the offseason,” Chubb said. So, speed, and weights, and things like that

Chubb, who turns 30 in December, has played in 10 games over the past two seasons . Keeping Chubb healthy will mean limiting the wear and tear on him throughout games and the regular season, so he is healthy for the Texans in the playoffs.

Fortunately for Chubb, the Texans have another Pro Bowler in starting tailback Joe Mixon.

The former Cleveland Browns star praised Mixon during his intro, also revealing the main reasons for signing with the Texans.

“I guess the biggest thing is knowing what this team is about from afar. I’ve always been a fan of Coach DeMeco [Ryans] , and I know some guys on the team. I know Joe Mixon . I know what he’s about, and I watched him from afar on the other sideline plenty of years. And I know how hard he runs the ball, and I know the opportunity I had here with this team being an up-and-coming team, and past two years have really turned it on. So, I know I had a chance to come here and win a lot of games surrounded by great group of people.”

Chubb offered further praise for Ryans, citing his energy and intensity.

“He’s young, fresh. He wants to win, and I was questioning why they wanted me. And then I came here and I saw a bunch of guys who like to work and not talk, and I realized that I’m a perfect fit. So, I realized why they wanted me here, and I’m excited about it.”

Chubb also called Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud a “great player” and a “great leader,” noting he they have exchanged contact information.

However, Chubb’s fit with Mixon, who has also dealt with injuries, is critical.

“I think we’re great together,” Chubb said. “He’s a bigger guy. Tall, explosive. He runs super hard, and I do the same thing. So, I think it’ll be us kind of doing that back-to-back and against other defenses, yeah.”

Nick Chubb Not Ready to Commemorate Browns Tenure

Chubb said he had not had time to “process” all that led him to the Texans when asked about his Browns exit , noting “it happened really fast.” He said he has been in touch with some former teammates and has seen the fans’ reactions.

However, he is not ready to ink the heartfelt message to his former home as other athletes often have.

“We have a long history there. I came as a freshman. I gave it my all for that team and for that city, and the fans appreciated me more than anything, and I appreciated them too. And it was a blessing to be drafted there,” Chubb said. “That’s still a part of me, no matter what. I’ll never forget my time there, and it was a blessing. But I’m looking forward to doing all that here now.

“I’m sure I’ll address that at some point. I’m not ready to do it now, but it’d be a great message.”

The Browns and Texans do not play each other during the 2025 regular season, so Chubb would need a playoff matchup to prove to his former team that they made a mistake.
