On Tuesday, the NFL passed a bylaw permitting league players to participate in the 2028 Summer Olympics in an event new to the Olympics: flag football. Per the resolution—which passed unanimously—each team can send a maximum of one player per country to play in the Olympics. The National Olympic Committee is allowing teams to be size of 10 player maximum, so there will not be a ton of spots available for NFL players.
However, two Detroit Lions are already trying to lay claim to their spots on a national team. Unsurprisingly, Amon-Ra St. Brown and his highly competitive nature wants in.
“It’s up!” St. Brown wrote on an Instagram story, before adding, “Die Mannschaft,” which translates from German to “The Team.” Obviously, the insinuation here is that St. Brown would want to play for the German national team. St. Brown was born and raised in California, but his mother is of German descent and he both speaks German and regularly visits Germany.

Additionally, it appears Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs would love to participate. The 23-year-old rising star said:
“Omg pls let me strap up,” then tagged St. Brown directly and said, “Gonna be a long day on this island for u buddy.”

Because teams are so small and it’s five vs. five, the best options for a team may be players who can play on both sides of the ball. And we already got a taste of what Gibbs may look like on defense from this past year’s Pro Bowl :
And it’s picked off by… @Jahmyr_Gibbs1 ️

We’re still over three years away from the 2028 Summer Olympics, and it’s hard to know if NFL players will even be considered the best player to play flag football, but it’s certainly fun to think about.
