Seahawks Linked to Move for Former Highly Touted 36-TD Dual-Threat Quarterback

November 20, 2025 by Heavy

The Seattle Seahawks have had a busy week of tryouts following the team’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Seattle hosted several veteran free agents for a November 18, 2025, workout.

The majority of these players were wide receivers, and Seattle announced the signing of wideout Brenden Rice as well as running back Velus Jones Jr. One interesting name was also on the Seahawks’ workout list in the NFL transactions log.

Seattle hosted former third-round pick Hendon Hooker. The dual-threat quarterback had a standout college football career at Tennessee before being selected by the Detroit Lions in the third round of the 2023 NFL draft.

Less than two years later, Hooker is looking for a new team, and it appears the Seahawks at least kicked the tires on the signal-caller. Let’s dive into how Hooker could fit with the Seahawks.

The Seahawks Hosting QB Hendon Hooker Calls Into Question Jalen Milroe’s Role in Seattle

So far, there has been no indication that the Seahawks will sign Hooker. Seattle already announced the addition of two players from the workout.

It is worth keeping an eye on given the Seahawks already have Drew Lock and Jalen Milroe sitting behind Sam Darnold . The move may be an indication that Milroe is not viewed as ready to contribute during his rookie season. There could also be a more simple explanation like Seattle wanted a quarterback to throw to the wide receivers the team hosted.

Lions HC Dan Campbell Hinted That QB Hendon Hooker Might Need a ‘Change of Scenery’

Detroit drafted Hooker after back-to-back stellar seasons at Tennessee. Hooker threw for 2,945 yards , 31 touchdowns and just three interceptions while completing 68% of his passes in 2021. Additionally, Hooker added 616 rushing yards and five touchdowns on the ground during the same season.

Prior to the season, the Lions released Hooker after Kyle Allen won the backup quarterback job. Lions head coach Dan Campbell publicly pondered whether Hooker needed a “change of scenery” in the days leading up to his release.

“How much development do you believe there is?” Campbell said of Hooker back in August, per Pro Football Talk. “We’re talking about Hooker right now, how much development do you believe there still is? Sometimes, does the player need a change of scenery?

“I wish Hooker — and I know he does — would have had a better outing, but you’ve got to take it with a grain of salt. It’s not like he was playing with our first o-line out there, or first team skill position, all of that,” Campbell added.

“You take that all into account as well. I thought he was prepared, I thought he was ready, looked pretty calm, and circumstances didn’t work out today, that’s all.”

QB Hendon Hooker Generated 1st Round Buzz Ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft

Following his release by the Lions, Hooker signed with the Carolina Panthers for a brief stint before being cut on November 4. Hooker still has plenty of upside given the signal-caller has played in just three NFL games. PFF’s Sam Monson noted months before the 2023 NFL draft that Hooker was “generating significant first-round hype.”

“All of a sudden, Hendon Hooker is generating significant first-round hype, and the reason for it has to be rooted in the prototypical quarterback tools he brings to the table,” Monson wrote in a March 29, 2023, story titled, “2023 NFL Draft: Biggest pro and con for PFF’s top quarterback prospects.” “At 6-foot-3 and 217 pounds, he has ideal size as well as the athleticism and speed to make plays with his legs.

“He has a good arm and carries enough ballast to be a problem for defenders to get on the ground. If NFL teams were running down a checklist of desirable physical characteristics for a quarterback, Hooker would tick every box.”
