On Wednesday, the NFL community learned that an arrest warrant was issued for Detroit Lions cornerback Cameron Sutton. Moments ago, an update on his situation was shared by ESPN’s Eric Woodyard .
It turns out the police in Florida have been searching for Sutton for nearly two weeks. He’s currently facing a charge of domestic battery by strangulation.
A spokesperson for the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said the arrest warrant for Sutton was issued on March 7.
Sutton allegedly “battered a woman” at a house in Lutz, Florida. He left the scene before the cops showed up.
So far, the police’s attempts to contact Sutton have been unsuccessful.
The Lions are aware of Sutton’s situation. It’s unclear if his status with the team will change because of it.
“We became aware of the ongoing legal situation involving Cam Sutton this morning,” the Lions said in a statement. “We will continue to monitor the situation and will not have further comment at this time.”
Sutton, 29, played for the Steelers from 2017-2022 before signing a three-year, $33 million contract with the Lions.
In his first season with the Lions, Sutton had 65 total tackles, six passes defended, an interception and a forced fumble.
We’ll continue to provide updates on Sutton’s legal situation when they’re available.
