Coming off the franchise’s first NFC Championship Game appearance in more than 30 years, the Detroit Lions are entering a pivotal offseason.
One of the items on the agenda for the reigning NFC North champions is exploring a long-term extension for star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, who just finished his third year with the team.
According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press , the Lions would like to get a deal done with St. Brown and are set to met with his representation at the NFL Scouting Combine this week in Indianapolis.
“While no deal is imminent, the Lions have made it clear they intend to invest in their own roster this offseason,” Birkett wrote.
A fourth-round pick out of USC in 2021, St. Brown tied for second in the NFL with with 119 receptions in 2023 while finishing third with 1,515 receiving yards. He also earned first-team All-Pro honors for the first time in his career.
A two-time Pro Bowler, St. Brown is on track to make $3.36 million in 2024 in the final year of his rookie deal. Any type of multi-year, long-term extension would likely put him among the highest-paid players at his position.
The top 10 highest-paid wide receivers during the 2023 season made between $20-30 million annual salary, and with the salary cap being bumped up again this year, those numbers should creep higher, which is great news for St. Brown.
