The Chicago Bears are optimistic that their young interior defensive linemen can take the next step for them during the 2024 season and boost their pass rush. Should the Bears reach the end of training camp and find they need another veteran in the room, though, a trade with the Cleveland Browns may suit their needs.
Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine recently pitched a potential trade between the Bears and Browns centered around seventh-year defensive tackle Maurice Hurst II. The 29-year-old re-signed with the Browns on a one-year, $1.74 million contract after a solid 2023 season in Cleveland, but the Browns also have two recent Day 2 picks waiting in the wings for their opportunity behind starters Dalvin Tomlinson and Shelby Harris.
As a result, Ballentine believes Hurst could become “dispensible” to the Browns and proposes the Bears could bring him to Chicago for just a 2025 sixth-round draft pick — of which they have three thanks to previous trades with Miami and Pittsburgh.
