It’s finally Week 1. We all made it! I get to talk about actual games now!
Now it’s time to take a look at what Week 1 could potentially bring us. The 4 teams of the North play each other this week, so that makes things pretty easy for me to preview. Plus, it’s also fun when rivalries are renewed!
Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions
This has always an interesting match up especially of late. The Bears ended last season winning 3 of their last 5 games, including one against the Lions. Detroit, however, lost all 5 of their final games of the season.
The Bears did make some offseason tweaks, bringing in veteran quarterback Nick Foles , and drafting tight end Cole Kmet , and cornerback Jaylon Johnson . But they plan on starting quarterback Mitch Trubisky , who has had his fair share of issues. The team is liking what they’ve seen out of both Kmet and Johnson, and their defense will continue to be solid with playmakers like linebacker Khalil Mack and Eddie Jackson .
Detroit, on the other hand, is returning stable veteran players with a mix of a couple of new ones, including running back Adrian Peterson and wide receiver Kenny Golladay . The Lions defense has certainly been a weak spot this offseason, with the departure of cornerback Darius Slay and defensive tackle A’shawn Robinson . However, this Lions team has a lot more to prove this season than in recent years, especially after the way they ended last season.
If the Lions defense is able to disrupt Trubisky’s rhythm I feel they have a great chance of winning. Yet, the Bears have played the Lions pretty tough these past few games, and have to feel pretty good about their chances as well.

Green Bay Packers at Minnesota Vikings
The Kings of the North come to visit the Princes of the North. (See what I did there, Prince…Minnesota?? Anyone?) QB Aaron Rodgers returns for his 16th season and QB Kirk Cousins is back under center for the Vikings. Both teams have made some changes, but they both return a very stable running game with RBs Dalvin Cook for Minnesota and Aaron Jones for Green Bay.
Outside of that, the Packers are sort of a mystery. What will the rest of their offense look like? What about their defense? Despite them being a little bit of an unknown, they’re always poised to win.
The Vikings will be bringing back Cook, but also WR Adam Theilen . They also added rookie WR Justin Jefferson as well. This team could be poised to do some good things this season, but with defensive end Danielle Hunter on IR it leaves a big hole.
Either way, there’s going to be some rust to dust off as we get going this season. Head coach Mike Zimmer has this team ready to win, and move towards dethroning the Packers. Sunday’s game could go a long way to proving that to be true.
Even though it will be different, it will look a little strange with few or no fans in the stands, we will still get a season. Its a start. So here’s to Week 1!
