The Lions appear to be giving some defensive linemen some rest.
The Detroit Lions toned down practice a bit on Thursday after a padded session on Wednesday. The team took the field in shorts on a sunny afternoon, and were a little short on players than normal.
A’Shawn Robinson and Da’Shawn Hand sat out practice after participating on Wednesday. For Hand, Wednesday’s practice was his first full contact session since suffering his elbow injury in training camp. While it’s possible Hand aggravated something on Wednesday, the more likely explanation for his absence is simply managing his workload this week, as the Lions have an extra long set of days in preparation for “Monday Night Football” against the Green Bay Packers .
The good news is that Damon Harrison Sr. returned to practice after missing Wednesday’s session. Snacks didn’t enter the bye week with any apparent injury, so this, too, may have been a case of rep management during the long week. With Snacks out on Wednesday, Hand likely got a good chunk of practice reps. Now with Hand and Robinson out, Snacks may get those reps right back on Thursday.
The one injury that does appear to be serious continues to be Mike Daniels , who is looking less and less likely to play against his former team this week. Daniels missed his second straight practice with a foot injury suffered in Week 3.
As for the rest, T.J. Hockenson appears to still be given a full workload at practice, suggesting he’ll work his way through concussion protocol before Monday’s game. Meanwhile, Darius Slay and Quandre Diggs have been out there despite hamstring injuries.
A full injury report is expected later on Thursday.
