With the third pick in the POD Community Mock Draft, the New York Giants select…
On the surface, the New York Giants look like a team primed to take a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft . While they did sign Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston this offseason, neither of them fix the Giants’ long-term problem at the position that has persisted ever since Eli Manning retired.
But in the 2025 Pride of Detroit Community Draft, the board has not fallen favorably for the Giants fans wanting a quarterback. Cam Ward went first overall to the Titans, and Shedeur Sanders went to the Browns second. So what can the Giants do now?
That is the decision facing POD community member sprtn66, who is acting as the Giants general manager in our 2025 POD Community mock. And with the third pick in the draft, the Giants have selected…
Travis Hunter, the cornerback/wide receiver out of Colorado.
Here’s sprtn66 explaining the pick:
With the third pick in the Pride of Detroit Community Mock Draft the New York Football Giants select CB/WR Travis Hunter from the University of Colorado. With so many needs the Giants could justify taking just about any of the top prospects.
Needs? Honestly just take your pick. QB Daniel Jones is long gone. Currently at QB they have Jameis Winston, Russell Wilson and Tommy DeVito. A guard and a center are needed for the IOL. They signed Paulson Adebo and have Andru Phillips in the slot. Another outside CB is needed. At WR Malik Nabors and Darius Slayton could use some help. Another DT next to Dexter Lawrence is also definitely a need.
With all these holes BPA is definitely the way to go. With Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders already selected, QB is out in a weak QB group. To me the best two players still available are Travis Hunter and Abdul Carter. The Giants already have Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux at DE. With Hunter the Giants would have an enviable top three CBs. As an added bonus the Giants would be adding one of the top WRs in the draft to pair with Nabors and Slayton. I see him primarily as a CB though with the bonus of a limited pitch count at WR.
Todd McShay had a post that pretty much agreed with my view on the Hunter vs. Carter debate.
“Deciding between Hunter and Carter is a great opportunity, but it’s a brutal choice to make. I almost always favor pass rushers over skill-position players. And one could argue that the Giants aren’t as desperate for Hunter’s services as they were just a couple weeks ago, before the team added corner Paulson Adebo and re-signed wideout Darius Slayton. But since Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux are on the roster, I think that the Giants could lean in Hunter’s direction. They would need to make a decision on how to get the most out of him on both sides of the ball, but my guess is that he would play a bigger role on offense here than he would if picked by some other organizations.”
