Jameson Williams hit quadruple-digit receiving yards by a hair in 2024. Can he do it again in 2025?
Jameson Williams finally grew into his outsized expectations in 2025. Ever since the Detroit Lions traded up in the first round of the 2022 draft to select him, expectations have been through the roof. A rookie year rehabbing from injury and a sophomore year stained with a gambling suspension put a damper on his progression.
Leading up to year three, we heard all sorts of rumors out of Allen Park that Jamo finally took the leap forward that we expected out of him and boy were they true. He burst onto the scene for a total of 1,062 scrimmage yards in 2024, including 1,001 yards through the air. Can he repeat that performance in 2025?
Question of the day: Will Jamo cross the 1000-yard receiving threshold again in 2025?
On the one hand, there’s a lot going for Jamo. He cemented himself as a part of the offense at every level of the field, from behind the line of scrimmage to the short-medium game to being a deep threat. He’s also going into just his second full offseason, and that should continue to slow the game down for him.
On the flipside, the Lions offense changed a lot throughout the season, and the target shares were different than we expected after the 2023 season. Players like Amon-Ra St. Brown and Sam LaPorta got off to slower starts than expected and finished their respective seasons with fewer receiving yards in 2024. As the season progressed, we saw them get more involved, while Tim Patrick emerged as a deep threat alongside Jamo. That didn’t stop Jamo from being productive down the stretch, but the Lions do have a lot of mouths to feed.
The glaring change, of course, is at offensive coordinators. I don’t expect a ton of change with John Morton at the helm, but there’s no telling what minute changes in offensive scheme, like depth of target or release time, will do to the production of the offense.
My answer: I think Jamo has a lot going for him. But given how narrowly he hit the 1,000-yard threshold in 2024, the uncertainty entering 2025 makes me think he’ll fall short.
I think he’ll still have a productive season, and I think another offseason will show more progression in his route tree and vision, putting him at a receiving total in the 900s of yards. However, with no certainty of what Morton’s offense will look like and the Lions distributing the ball to their numerous stars, I think Jamo’s receiving yardage total may take a small hit.
