With Lions’ WR Calvin Johnson being inducted into the team’s ring of honor, who do you think will be the next player to follow the legend?
Apart from everything that has been taking place on the field, the Detroit Lions have been doing a lot of things right off the field, too. Among them is repairing the once-strained relationship between the organization and one of the greatest talents to ever dawn the Honolulu Blue—Hall of Fame receiver Calvin Johnson.
It has been a few years in the making now, but Johnson will officially be inducted into the team’s ring of honor during halftime of the team’s Week 4 matchup with the Seattle Seahawks. Lions’ Chief Operating Officer Mike Disner and fellow ring of honor inductee Lomas Brown surprised Johnson with the news this week during his celebrity golf outing.
It likely should have happened quite a bit earlier, but better late than never. And with the rise of the team over the last few years, it seems fitting that one of the franchise’s biggest legends is honored on what is sure to be an electric primetime atmosphere inside of Ford Field.
That brings us to today’s Question of the Day:
Who will be the next player inducted into the Lions’ ring of honor?
My Answer: I don’t want to put the cart before the horse here, but I am going with All-Pro right tackle Penei Sewell. In only his third season as a pro, the former Oregon Duck turned in a dominant campaign in 2023, and will still only be 23 years old when the 2024 season gets underway in September.
Sewell also just signed a record-setting contract extension , and should be a pillar of the organization for the foreseeable future. Another obvious candidate I would throw onto this list would be another pillar—All-Pro receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.
How about you? Who do you think will be the next Lions’ player to be inducted into the team’s ring of honor? Let us know by leaving a comment with your answer at the bottom of the page.
