The Detroit Lions have plenty of interesting characters on their roster. Who is your current favorite to follow on social media?
It may be the offseason, but thanks to social media, our access to the Detroit Lions is never really turned off—at least not completely. And while social media and the internet as a whole can be certainly have their drawbacks, there are at least some positives that go along with it.
Think about it—these days, there are instances in which we get our breaking news from a player’s Instagram or Twitter account. When not that long ago, it was more of a rarity for a player to be really active on social media. There was almost this unspoken code amongst older generations of players that it was thought of as weird, or off-putting, to share a ton of one’s life details for the world to see. Think of a certain former Lions coach and his run-in with then-cornerback Darius Slay over how Slay was using his social media. Talk about a disconnect between generations and a lack of understanding on how to connect with your players.
However, those days are now gone. Most players in the NFL today grew up with social media being an integral part of their day-to-day life, and as a result, they seem much more comfortable with sharing things.
Personally, I enjoy this aspect of being a fan because we begin to learn more about the players. What do they like to do in their free time? What games are they playing? What food do they enjoy eating in the city?
Maybe you are a big outdoors person. If that is the case, I bet you would love following along with center Frank Ragnow and all of the content he and his people produce at Grizzly Man Outdoors. Or maybe you are a world-traveler looking to learn more about Europe? I suggest following wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown on all platforms.
Today’s Question of the Day is:
Who is your favorite Lion to follow on social media?
My Answer: Maybe this is because I am getting older and closer to potentially starting a family of my own, but for me, it’s Penei Sewell. He and his wife, Isabelle, have two young children, two dogs, a house in the Metro-Detroit area—the whole thing.
From naps with the family to playing football in the backyard with his pups, Sewell really seems to enjoy being a family-man and being at home with his people.
