The Lions have some solid young talent, but who is the most promising?
Earlier this week, Pro Football Focus released a list of the 25 players under 25 years old . The Detroit Lions didn’t have a single player amongst them, which is understandable but not really a good measure of how much young talent the team has.
Detroit has key, young players at nearly every position, from running back, to tight end, to offensive line/defensive line, linebacker, plus a loaded secondary.
So today’s Question of the Day is:
Who is the Lions’ best player under 25?
My answer: First, let’s look at the candidates:
… and obviously, the Lions’ entire rookie roster .
At this point, I’m not going to anoint any rookies as the best player under 25, so we’re left with the list above. Though it’s worth mentioning Detroit has a handful of players that barely don’t qualify for this list, including Taylor Decker (25), Trey Flowers (25) and Kenny Golladay (25).
But out of the sub-25 group, I honestly think Kerryon Johnson is the clear best player here. Johnson ’s rookie season was the best we’ve seen from a Lions rookie in a long time, even if it was cut short by six games. He was the complete package, capable of breaking off a big run or bulldozing over a defender for some gritty yards.
The Lions may not have a guy on the top 25 under 25 list this year, but if Johnson can stay on the field, he’ll be eligible for this list for the next three years, and you should fully expect him to make it at least twice.
