We’ve talked a lot about pairing the Detroit Lions with a defensive prospect. But which 2025 NFL Draft player on offense would look best in Detroit?
Last year, the Detroit Lions had the best offense in football, averaging a league-high 33.2 points per game. In 2025, they are returning 10 of 11 starters on offense, while several key components of their scoring attack (Jahmyr Gibbs, Jameson Williams, Sam LaPorta) are still young and growing. Even with the loss of offensive coordinator Ben Johnson this offseason, expectations remain sky-high on offense, with even the potential to get better if those key pieces take another step in their development.
So, naturally, the focus for the 2025 NFL Draft has been the Lions defense. There are several places along the defensive line that could use an upgrade, and Detroit’s depth on the backend is in need of a few more players, too. However, it feels like with a week left until the draft, we’ve exhausted the conversation about our favorite defensive players.
So let’s slide back to the offense, because it’s never a bad idea to ensure a strength remains a strength.
Today’s Question of the Day is:
Who are your favorite offensive prospects for the Lions?
My answer: Obviously, guard has been a big part of the draft conversation due to the departure of starting right guard Kevin Zeitler. There is a short and long-term need there, but so many of us have already planted our flag for our favorite OL prospect, be it North Dakota State’s Grey Zabel (my favorite), Alabama’s Tyler Booker, or Georgia’s Tate Ratledge. We’ve talked about this a ton at this point. I want to get into other positions of lesser needs.
Stanford receiver Elic Ayomanor has been one of my favorite people to cover since jumping into draft coverage. His media session at the NFL Combine was impressive , showing his confidence (yet humbleness), intelligence, and leadership qualities that made him a good teammate in college. On the field, his demeanor and size made him an active and willing blocker, and his athleticism (9.71 RAS), allowed him to successfully break open at the top of his routes. He’d be a perfect fit for Detroit’s long-term WR-X position.
