The Detroit Lions have added several key players through free agency and the draft this offseason. Who’s flying the most under the radar?
The Lions have made several key upgrades to their roster throughout the 2024 NFL Draft and free agency. Somehow, amidst all the talent on their roster, they’ve brought in multiple players who will likely start in some capacity—Carlton Davis, DJ Reader, Terrion Arnold, and Kevin Zeitler come to mind.
However, the Lions have also added a slew of players whose exact roles are still unclear. Think Amik Robertson, Mathieu Betts, and Jake Bates. Can they fight for a starting spot? Will they be a key backup? Will they even make the roster?
Question of the day: Which new addition to the Lions is most underrated?
My answer: For me, it’s definitely Amik Robertson. I feel like he’s getting lost in the shuffle way too much this offseason.
Sure, the Lions made headlines by drafting Terrion Arnold and trading for Carlton Davis III. In whole, the Lions’ cornerbacks room is going to be overhauled compared to last year. But Robertson is likely to slot in, pun intended, as the Lions’ starting nickel corner, allowing Brian Branch to play more snaps as a true safety.
Robertson spent the last several years as one of the Las Vegas Raiders ’ better corners and plays much more physically than he stacks up. I think, for the hype he’s gotten (or lack thereof), he’s going to make quite a splash on the back end of the defense.
Which Lions’ offseason acquisition do you think is most underrated? Is Jake Bates the future in Detroit? Will Mathieu Betts replicate his CFL success? Is Christian Mahogany going to cement himself along the offensive line from day one? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
