The Detroit Lions are expecting to host an international game in 2026 . It has been a decade since we last saw them play abroad, so the timing makes sense. In previous years, that meant a trip across the pond to London to play in Wembley Stadium. However, as the NFL has expanded its international presence in recent years, the options have opened up. Where do you want to see them play?
Question of the day: Where do you want to see the Lions play an international game?
For starters, of course the United Kingdom is on the table given the history of London games. As of the 2025 season, the NFL is also set to play games in Brazil, Germany, Ireland, and Spain. The league also announced that they expect to host a game in Melbourne, Australia in 2026 . However, the Rams are the designated team for that, so if the Lions are expecting to allocate their extra home game to an international matchup, it’s unlikely they’ll be in Australia.
My answer: I think the novelty of hosting a Lions game in Germany would be pretty cool considering the ties that Amon-Ra St. Brown and his family have to the region. The Lions would surely lean into that from a marketing standpoint. As far as the fan experience, though, I think a trip to Madrid, Spain sounds the most alluring.
