The national media continues to doubt Jared Goff. Where does he rank among NFL QBs?
‘Tis the season for everyone to dole out their positional rankings and cause a commotion in the NFL community. One of the latest instances was Pro Football Focus’ Trevor Sikkema, who ranked the top quarterbacks in the NFL. Sikkema ranked Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff as the 16th-best QB in the NFL, below some NFC North guys like Jordan Love and (now NFC South guy) Kirk Cousins, and only three spots ahead of Caleb Williams who hasn’t even seen an NFL game yet.
As always, you should take these rankings with a grain of salt, but 16 seems pretty low for a guy who, not too long ago, nearly made it to his second Super Bowl with his second team. Our own Morgan Cannon and Meko Scott recently offered their rebuttal to these rankings .
Today’s Question of the Day is…
Where does Jared Goff rank among all NFL QBs?
My answer: He’s comfortably in the top 10, and I think you can argue that he deserves to be even higher.
The funny thing about PFF’s rankings is that Goff landed just outside of the list’s third tier, labeled as the “Postseason-Caliber QBs” tier. If Goff didn’t just prove that he belongs in this exact tier after his performance last year, then I don’t know what else he can do. Other players listed in that tier include Justin Herbert (0 career playoff wins), Dak Prescott (2 career playoff wins), and C.J. Stroud (1 playoff win). Very interesting.
Goff is now 5-4 all-time in the playoffs and was playing some of his best ball in the 2024 playoffs. This isn’t the same Jared Goff that was struggling at the end of his tenure with the Rams, but it seems like there are many analysts who don’t seem to understand that just yet. That’s okay, though. Goff is growing used to proving the doubters wrong.
