What is the most important thing you learned about Jared Goff in season two of Netflix’s “Quarterback”?
It’s now been a few days since Netflix debuted season two of the NFL docuseries “Quarterback.” The second season featured three quarterbacks: Bengals’ Joe Burrow, Falcons’ Kirk Cousins, and, of course, Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff.
If you’re like me, you immediately binged just the Goff parts—I honestly don’t have all that much interest in the other two. But even those whose plan is to sit and take in all seven episodes as they were meant to be consumed have now had enough time to watch at least half the series, if not more.
Earlier this week, I offered my biggest takeaways from the series , as did Meko Scott and Morgan Cannon over on our YouTube page. Now, I want to hear from y’all.
Today’s Question of the Day is:
What was your biggest takeaway from Jared Goff in “Quarterback”?
My answer: As I noted earlier in the week , I was hoping to see what Goff’s weekly preparation looked like, and Netflix certainly offered a peek. Whether it was working through specific play calls with his wife, watching film at home, or tinkering with different iterations of the “stumblebum” early in the week of practice, you certainly got a sense of how much ownership Goff had of the offense last year.
None of that was more obvious than when the documentary caught a neat moment during the Lions vs. Texans game last year. Trailing significantly during a very important game, we see Goff pleading aloud that offensive coordinator Ben Johnson calls the play “wasp,” knowing this is the perfect time to execute it. Seconds later, we see Johnson calling that exact play and it working to perfection for a big gain that ultimately led to Detroit’s comeback win.
Seeing Goff with that much knowledge and awareness of the offensive scheme gives me some peace of mind knowing that the big change at offensive coordinator may not be as impactful as some worry.
