Discussion the best and most important part of the 2025 NFL Combine.
Tuesday marks the first real day of the 2025 NFL Combine . While on-field drills don’t begin until Thursday and player media sessions start on Wednesday, Tuesday is when NFL general managers and coaches have their press conferences.
I’m currently down in Indianapolis and will be providing live coverage of the Detroit Lions ’ media sessions—Brad Holmes is currently scheduled for 1 p.m. ET and Dan Campbell will be at 3:30 p.m. ET, while both coordinators are expected to speak separately with Detroit media later in the day.
After that, it’s all about the players. For the rest of the week, players will be doing media, getting athletic testing done, go through medical checks, and then take the field for the televised drills.
All of it is an important part of the process, but we, as fans, prioritize different things and different players. So today’s Question of the Day is:
What is the best part about the NFL Combine?
My answer: It’s probably boring to some, but I think it’s the media sessions, both with the players and the team employees.
While I can admit that coaches and general managers have no incentive to be truthful during these sessions and they can be outright deceitful at times, the Lions don’t really operate that way. While both Campbell and Holmes have done a better job in recent years of holding onto information, they very rarely lie. In addition to that, it will be useful this year to hear from offensive coordinator John Morton and defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard as they assume their new roles with the team.
Beyond that, with Detroit’s strict adherence to drafting high-character players, the prospect press conferences also should be considered an important part of the process for fans and media who are trying to find draft fits in Detroit. Take, for example, Terrion Arnold last year. During his media session, he displayed immense confidence in his game—some saying he “commanded the room” and “stole the show.” Then, during the on-field drills, he spent time with NFL Network in a heart-warming moment thanking his mother for everything she did for him.

So during my week in Indianapolis, I’m going to be doing my best to learn the people behind the players—that can be just as important when it comes to the Lions’ evaluation process.
