With the news of Lions starting right guard Kevin Zeitler being out for the divisional round, how confident are you in the abilities of rookie Christian Mahogany?
This time of year, depth in the NFL is not only encouraged—it is essentially required to remain competitive as the cream rises to the top during the playoffs. And for the Detroit Lions , this season has been particularly brutal in terms of injuries.
From losing star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson during a blowout win over the Dallas Cowboys earlier in the regular season, to losing players like Alim McNeill and Carlton Davis III more recently—the Lions have had their fair share of injury woes in 2024.
With that said, this is where it pays to have Brad Holmes, the best general manager in the NFL, leading your organization. Despite the offensive line being the strongest point of his roster, Holmes drafted rookie offensive lineman Christian Mahogany out of Boston College in the 2024 NFL Draft , and that selection has already paid dividends. Mahogany is set to make his second career start this week, with starting right guard Kevin Zeitler declared out on Thursday .
That brings us to today’s Question of the Day:
How confident are you in Christian Mahogany?
Answer: Very, and let me explain why. First off, Mahogany’s experience in college has proven to be invaluable during his transition to a pro. He is familiar with zone concepts, gap-concepts—you name it, the rookie is good with it.
Secondly, I am sure it helps to be sandwiched between a couple of All-Pros in center Frank Ragnow and right tackle Penei Sewell. Veterans like those two can help in so many ways, including changes being made at the line of scrimmage by quarterback Jared Goff.
Personally, I am excited for Mahogany to invoke his inner Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen once again during his second career start.
