What is your initial reaction to the news of the Lions hiring David Shaw to be their passing game coordinator?
After a bit of news about the exodus from the coaching ranks of the Detroit Lions , the influx is now taking shape. First there was the news about the team hiring John Morton to be their offensive coordinator , and now most recently—the news that the Lions are also hiring former Stanford coach David Shaw as their passing game coordinator.
Shaw’s experience with John Morton dates back more than two decades, back when the two were starting their coaching careers with the Oakland Raiders. Now the two will be part of a Lions coaching staff that will be entering the 2025 season with high expectations.
That brings us to today’s Question of the Day:
What are your initial thoughts on Lions passing game coordinator David Shaw?
Answer: To me, the hiring of both Morton and Shaw tells me several things, but most of all, it tells me that Lions coach Dan Campbell is not messing around with what has been working so well. At this point in the process, the Lions offense is a well-built machine. And while it won’t look exactly as it did in 2024, it’s clear that Campbell and the rest of the Lions brass don’t want to mess with a good thing.
With Morton and Shaw now in the fold, along with Hank Fraley being retained and promoted to run game coordinator, the Lions have a ton of experience to lean on.
