Detroit Lions left tackle Taylor Decker is doing his part to help the younger players on his team.
Over on Instagram, the veteran offensive lineman shared of a video of him working out at the AMDG Performance Center—a private training center in Arizona where he typically works out during the offseason.
But this year, he had a friend with him: 2024 fourth-round pick Giovanni Manu. Take a look:
Last year, the Lions traded up for Manu, gambling on his physical traits. A standout at British Columbia, Manu came to Detroit extremely raw, but with eye-popping tools—6-foot-7, 352 pounds, and a ridiculous 5.06 40-yard dash at that size. In his rookie season, he never saw the field, but general manager Brad Holmes noted some progress behind the scenes.
“If you’ve watched the film of Gio in OTAs and you watched the film of Gio in practice, I mean, it literally is night and day,” Holmes said in January. “So that’s a credit to (OL coach) Hank (Fraley) and (assistant OL coach) Steve Oliver and all those guys just working with him, and a credit to him because he was conscientious of making sure that he’s improved.”
When coach Dan Campbell came to Detroit, he said one of his primary goals was to make sure the players eventually took over leadership of the team. It’s safe to say Decker has taken that to heart, and it’s awesome to see him help mentor Manu as the youngster heads into his second NFL season.
