Notes: Lions take fans behind-the-scenes of schedule release video

A neat look at what went into making the 2024 Detroit Lions schedule release video.

Last week, the Detroit Lions revealed the 2024 schedule with the help of two beloved Detroit actors and are now giving fans a peek behind the curtain.

The Lions media team put together some behind-the-scenes footage from their schedule release video, which featured comedians Sam Richardson and Tim Robinson—both Detroit natives. This footage shows what went into making the video and truly, it seems like very little, and I mean that in the best way. They say they only gave the actors a basic concept of what they were looking for you can really only throw a basic concept at someone and expect it to turn out funny if the people involved are wildly talented. That was certainly the case here.

“I gotta say, I was a little bit nervous sending the first concept over but once we got the initial concept approved, it was smooth sailing from there,” said production manager Neil Larson in the behind-the-scenes video.

If you’re unfamiliar, the schedule release video involves Richardson and Robinson playing themselves, explaining they were hired to help with announcing this season’s schedule. They list some ideas that were “rejected,” including an attack ad on Fanatics, the company largely blamed for leaking the Lions’ new jerseys. The unscripted video is basically the actors saying whatever they wanted to.

“They were good at just going with whatever came to their head. It was cool to see,” producer Erin Gibson says in the behind-the-scenes footage.

You’ll also watch the actors share how eager they were to be involved in this project.

“I love the team so much. Any chance to be involved in any way, I jump it. I think that’s true for both of us,” Richardson said. “They said we got a t-shirt for you and I said I’m coming.”

And onto the rest of your notes.

  • CBS Sports’ Josh Edwards ranked his top rookie vs. rookie matchups in 2024. One of his favorites includes Terrion Arnold against Arizona Cardinals receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.

  • Since I don’t have a Jake Bates update for you as he did not have any field goals in their win against the Memphis Showboats on Saturday, instead a cool tidbit — Tom Brady was at Ford Field for the game. The matchup aired on FOX, and Brady was recently hired as its lead NFL game analyst. I didn’t see him on the field anywhere after pregame warmups, so my best guess is he was up in a booth practicing.

  • Speaking of, while looking around for Lions-related stories, this one from a Florida writer popped up on how Goff’s deal may impact Jacksonville QB Trevor Lawrence. “With Goff paid, Lawrence’s situation becomes clearer, likely making that the floor of any new negotiating given how quarterback negotiations have gone, historically.”

  • Our pal, A to Z Sports’ Mike Payton, offers three Lions he thinks are destined for a breakout season in 2024.
