The people are yet again excited to see what the Lions are made of.
As football fans gear up for the 2025 NFL schedule release Wednesday, several media outlets are selecting their top must-see games of the season.
NFL.com’s Kevin Patra ranked the matchup between the Detroit Lions at the Philadelphia Eagles as his second-most anticipated game of the year.
“It’s the matchup we didn’t get last postseason. The Lions and the Eagles were the clear-cut two best NFC clubs during the regular season, but then Detroit failed to win a playoff game while Philly romped to the Lombardi Trophy. … Regardless of where on the calendar it falls, we should be in for a heavyweight bout between a Jared Goff-led explosive offense and the home runs of Saquon Barkley,” he writes.
Meanwhile, CBS Sports’ Jeff Kerr selected three Lions games for his list of top-10 matchups . Ranked No. 8 — Lions at Kansas City Chiefs .
“Two of the best teams in the NFL square off at Arrowhead Stadium, a rematch of the thrilling 2023 NFL Kickoff Game which the Lions announced to the NFL world they were ready for prime time,” he explains.
I believe that game went quite favorably for the Lions and distinctly remember it led to a lot of sleepy Detroit fans the next day, unable to come down from the high.
Next up at No. 6 — Lions at Washington Commanders , a revenge game after they knocked Detroit out of the NFC playoffs .
“Jayden Daniels and the Commanders are must-see TV in 2025, and the Lions are still one of the league’s top teams. This should be a slugfest,” he writes.
Kerr agrees the Detroit-Philly meetup will be a must-watch, but has it ranked a bit lower than the NFL.com list at No. 5.
“Both teams are two of the best in the NFC, and the Lions had to watch the Eagles hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy last season (without ever getting to play them). The Eagles and Lions last met in Week 1 of the 2022 season, and this game will have a lot of hype in Philadelphia,” he said.
