Notes: Dan Miller explains why he’s not worried about coaching changes

The voice of the Lions believes the Lions are already past one of the hurdles of coaching change ups.

Change can be hard for anyone, but comes with the territory when it comes to the NFL. The ability to adapt to these changes is what separates a good team from a great team, and that’s what the Detroit Lions are facing in 2025.

Coming off two playoff appearances unfortunately cut short, the Lions have a chance to prove themselves a great team as they face one of the hardest types of change—new coaches. With the departure of defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn to the New York Jets and offensive coordinator Ben Johnson to the Chicago Bears , the Lions experienced quite the coaching overhaul this offseason. Now, as former Lions senior offensive assistant John Morton takes the reins as OC and former linebackers coach Kelvin Sheppard was promoted to DC, some are questioning whether the Lions can adapt.

Many national sports media analysts are worried they can’t, as the Lions continue to drop in preseason power rankings, but one person with actual boots on the ground here knows better. Joining “Ozzy and Keats,” a podcast hosted by Red Wings legend Chris Osgood and recently retired Detroit sports broadcaster John Keating, FOX 2 sports director and voice of the Lions Dan Miller explained why he’s not doubting Detroit. It starts with the fact that Morton was here in 2022 when Johnson took over and the powerhouse offense was created.

“I think that’s hugely important because you may think you know what you’re getting in a coach, but when they get in there and things get tough — how they interact with people, players, difficult times, how they handle that — that’s really where relationships are made or lost. He’s already got that with Jared,” Miller said. “You’ve taken that unknown off the table.”

The same thing applies to Sheppard, he said.

“Every defensive player that was here last year, or the past couple of years, knows exactly who he is. Aaron Glenn did him a favor that he wasn’t just a linebackers coach, he was somebody that (Glenn) put in front of the team, so they know exactly who he is, how he acts, what he wants, and there won’t be any surprises there,” Miller said.

  • More from “Up and Adams”: Goff addresses the narrative that he doesn’t perform well in cold weather.

Time to dead the “Jared Goff isn’t a cold weather QB” narrative!!!

Since 2022, he’s 4-1 with the 4th HIGHEST passer rating in the NFL when the temperature is below freezing.
