Netflix’s Receiver has offered viewers unprecedented access that may have exposed a violation from the Detroit Lions.
In the documentary series, Amon Ra-St. Brown candidly discussed the injuries he faced throughout the 2023 season. The Lions star said he suffered an oblique injury during a Week 3 game against the Atlanta Falcons.
Despite playing their next game on Thursday night, the Lions didn’t include Brown on their Week 4 injury report. Brown caught five of seven targets for 56 yards and a touchdown in a 34-20 victory over the Green Bay Packers.
“I’m running, but the pain is like, out a 10 it’s like at an eight. Eight or nine,” Brown said in Receiver. “And so I’m like, it’s too late for me not to play. The game plan’s in. Painkillers is something I really don’t like to take, unless it’s the Packers.”
It remains unclear if the Lions could face any consequences. The NFL declined to comment on the situation when asked by Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio .
Brown missed Detroit’s next game against the Carolina Panthers with an abdomen injury. Receiver also chronicled the Pro Bowler playing through a case of hand, foot, and mouth disease against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 8, but the Lions reported the illness when listing him as questionable.
Despite his many ailments, Brown finished third behind CeeDee Lamb and Tyreek Hill with 1,515 receiving yards and tied Hill for the NFL’s second-most catches (119) behind Lamb. The former fourth-round pick scored a career-high 10 touchdowns before leading Detroit into the playoffs, where he notched 274 yards and a touchdown in three games.
While Brown still had a productive Week 4 game despite the unreported injury, it represented his third-fewest yards in 19 regular-season and playoff games last season.
