When the Detroit Lions take the field this weekend for rookie minicamp, Dan Campbell won’t be shouting out instructions from the sideline. That’s because he won’t be there.
The Lions announced this week that Campbell will miss rookie minicamp for personal reasons. As of now, he’s expected to return to Detroit’s facility later this month.
Detroit’s rookie minicamp will officially begin this Friday at the Allen Park practice facility. It’ll conclude on Sunday, May 12.
Even though Campbell won’t be in attendance, Lions fans will get an early look at first-round pick Terrion Arnold. The talented cornerback from Alabama is expected to take the team’s secondary to the next level.
Arnold won’t be the only marquee defensive back at rookie minicamp. The Lions selected Ennis Rakestraw Jr. from Missouri in the second round of this year’s draft.
Additionally, the Lions drafted offensive tackle Giovanni Manu, running back Sione Vaki, LSU defensive tackle Mekhi Wingo, and Boston College offensive guard Christian Mahogany.
The Lions proved last season they can legitimately contend for a Super Bowl. They’re hoping this year’s rookie class can get them over the hump in the playoffs.
