Detroit Lions fans booed Matthew Stafford during Sunday night’s homecoming. According to Kelly Stafford, they jeered the whole family.
The Lions advanced to the second round with a 24-23 victory over the Los Angeles Rams. On Monday, Kelly wished her husband’s former team luck the rest of the way.
“What a season.. and for it to end at Ford Field. Already excited for this Rams team next season,” she wrote on Instagram . “And he will be back next year Detroit, but until then, go get you one!!!”

An Instagram user told her the Lions don’t deserve her adoration, declaring they “showed their true colors” by booing. Kelly didn’t take that reaction personally, aside from fans heckling her daughters.
“It’s sports. The city wants to win. Everything is fair game … except the fans who booed my children,” she wrote on Instagram Stories. “Other than that, I love the atmosphere, and the booing just gave my husband more fire. The more you love, the more you hate. I consider it all love going both ways.”
It’s possible those boos were directed her way. Then again, that still raises the question of why anyone booed any Staffords at Ford Field.
Stafford remains Detroit’s all-time passing leader by a wide margin after 12 seasons with the organization.
While Stafford promptly won a ring with the Rams after getting traded in 2021, Jared Goff led the Lions to their first division title in 30 years and first playoff win in 32 years. The splitting has arguably benefitted both sides.
Despite the crowd’s hostile reaction, Kelly is still pulling for the Lions to win the Super Bowl. Having watched her husband steer the Rams to a championship, she knows hoisting a Lombardi Trophy is “like no other” feeling.
