As the NFL training camp nears, several veteran free agents remain available, including four-time Pro Bowler Matthew Judon . Judon spent most of his career with the Baltimore Ravens and New England Patriots . The Atlanta Falcons acquired him last season for a short one-year stint, where he recorded 5.5 sacks. His best year on record came in 2022 with the New England Patriots, accomplishing a career-high 15.5 sacks.
Judon stated he remains confident in his ability to play via Kyle Odegard of Cardplayer, “I think I can still…but that’s not up to me. I’m not a G.M. making that decision. I just have to be ready if and when my name is called. ” Judon also shut down a possible return to the Falcons, stating “it’s probably unlikely”, after they drafted two edge rushers in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. As the season nears, several teams, including contenders, will be evaluating the best fits for Matthew Judon.
Free Agent Matthew Judon Best Fits
Detroit Lions
Star pass rusher and fan favorite Aidan Hutchinson suffered a severe leg injury last year and will likely be eased into the start of the season. The Lions are pretty thin at edge and could use Judon’s presence. The Lions acquired Za’Darius Smith after Adain Hutchinson’s leg injury last year. He did a decent job leading the team with 4.0 sacks during the final stretch of the season. Still, the Lions released him early this offseason. Adding Judon makes sense for a Lions defensive line that can use help in a tough NFC North division.
Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders already have a superstar edge rusher in Maxx Crosby , but pairing him with Matthew Judon could benefit the Raiders’ pass rush in many ways. Judon’s presence would take pressure off Crosby and limit the double teams he often faces. That is especially true if Judon can consistently win his one-on-one matchups. New General Manager John Spytek re-signed defensive end Malcom Koonce, who had a breakout year in 2023, recording 8 sacks. Unfortunately, Koonce missed the entire 2024 season due to the torn ACL he suffered in the preseason. With Koonce working his way back, Judon could step in immediately and create havoc opposite Crosby.

Tennessee Titans
Tennessee is thin at outside linebacker, which makes Judon a logical short-term addition. He could step in and play meaningful snaps alongside Outside Linebacker Arden Key. That pairing would give the Titans a reliable veteran presence off the edge. While Judon can help solidify the front seven, many project the Titans to have another down year as they continue to rebuild. That likely scenario could make Judon a valuable piece at the NFL trade deadline. Tennessee will have a chance to flip him to a playoff or Super Bowl contender in need of a pass rusher. The Titans would receive a draft pick in return; how high it is depends on how well Judon performs up to that point.
Judon Is Still Dangerous In The Right Role
At 32 years old, Judon is best suited for a team that’s ready to compete for a playoff position. His experience, strong instincts, and production make him an ideal fit for a contender looking to strengthen its front seven. Whether a team starts Judon on day one or uses him in a rotational role, he can still impact games and pressure quarterbacks at a high level.
