Some serious overturn on offense means it’s time for Jared Goff to level up once again.
Last season, Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff had his best career season. He set personal highs in passer rating (111.8), yards per attempt (8.6), success rate (54.7%), and passing touchdowns (37). He helped lead the No. 1 offense in the league to 15 wins, and the Detroit Lions’ first-ever one-seed in the Super Bowl era.
Yet he enters 2025 with just as many questions as ever. For one, his playoff game was a major letdown. Goff turned the ball over four times against the Commander (three interceptions and a fumble lost) and completed just 57.5 percent of his passes.
More importantly, Goff must now prove he’s capable of yet another shift in his supporting cast. He’s, once again, facing doubters who claim Detroit’s offensive success should largely be credited to former offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and Ben Johnson only. And with significant shakeups on the offensive line, some have expressed legitimate concern that lapses in protection could force some serious regression in Goff’s game.
But all of Goff’s career has been about change, adjustment, and perseverance. Whether it’s navigating a brutal rookie season and dealing with a young head coach in Sean McVay, or having his world turned upside down after being dealt as a perceived “throw-in” in a blockbuster trade, Goff has always seemed to come out of the other end of turbulence better than before.
