An injury update on the Detroit Lions during Day 3 of OTAs.
The Detroit Lions had several players missing from Friday’s Organized Team Activity—the team’s third session of the week. Prior to practice, coach Dan Campbell said they were being extra cautious with many players this time of year because they don’t need to push it.
“We’re just trying to be smart,” Campbell said. “We’ve got little dings here and there, and so we’re just trying to make sure everybody’s good. So, this is the time of year to make sure that we’re being a little more conservative with those type of things. And they’re here, they’re in meetings, and so everybody’s locked in.”
Here’s a look at the specific players who were missing or limited based on my own observations.
Was not in attendance
- RB David Montgomery
- RB Sione Vaki
- WR Amon-Ra St. Brown
- OL Miles Frazier
- C Frank Ragnow
- EDGE Josh Paschal
- DT Alim McNeill
- DT Levi Onwuzurike
- DT Mekhi Wingo
- DT Brodric Martin
- LB Alex Anzalone
- LB Malcolm Rodriguez
- LB Derrick Barnes
- CB Terrion Arnold
- CB Khalil Dorsey
- CB Gavin Holmes
- S Brian Branch
Of note, prior to practice, Campbell listed 21 players who were either limited or wouldn’t be participating in the practice .
He also mentioned that there were only two players who were not at the facility. Though he didn’t name them, it appears they are Frank Ragnow and Alex Anzalone, as both were not seen at practice and were not on Campbell’s list of 21 players in attendance who would not be full participants.
Were at practice but appeared limited/did not practice
This is a list of players who were spotted at practice, but were either limited at practice, working with trainers, or did not appear to participate at all:
- WR Isaac TeSlaa
TeSlaa had his jersey on and spent his time during practice with a trainer. He was running at a pretty good pace, so this looks particularly cautionary. Campbell specifically said they were taking it easier on the rookies, who have had a busy offseason preparing for the draft.
- TE Kenny Yeboah
Yeboah, who had a jersey and helmet, was side by side with TeSlaa for most of the trainer work.
- DT Tyleik Williams
Williams went through walkthroughs at the beginning of practice but was held out of full-team drills.
- DT DJ Reader
Reader didn’t have a jersey on but was working out with a trainer along with TeSlaa and Yeboah.
- LB Jack Campbell
Campbell participated in most of the walkthrough, but was left out of team drills. He told media afterward that he had a “little thing” done on his hip this offseason but has been doing walkthroughs all offseason.
“You know, if I could, I’d be out there,” Campbell said. “And I’m out there doing—trying to do all I can do. So participating in every walkthrough session that I can be in, every meeting, everything. I’m doing as much as I can because I feel like every single player in there knows what it’s gonna take to be where we want to be.”
