The Detroit Lions first-round pick was absent from practice Friday, but it was almost exclusively good injury news on Day 5 of training camp.
For the first time since training camp opened, no Detroit Lions appeared to suffer an injury during the team’s first padded practice. It’s a nice sigh of relief after some frustrating days in the first week of camp. In fact, it was almost exclusively good news, particularly with Terrion Arnold and Derrick Barnes both practicing despite leaving Thursday’s practice early.
Here’s a look at who was in and who was out in Friday’s practice.
Still on injury list:
Note: Because Levi Onwuzurike is out for the year, I will no longer be listing him here.
- LT Taylor Decker (PUP)
- G Miles Frazier (PUP)
- DT Alim McNeill (PUP)
- DT Mekhi Wingo (PUP)
- EDGE Josh Paschal
- LB Malcolm Rodriguez (PUP)
- CB Khalil Dorsey (PUP)
Nothing too new here, but it’s worth noting that Malcolm Rodriguez got significant work on the field that wasn’t being used for most of practice. He was working on his backpedal and occasionally running at a good speed. He also recently shared this video on social media:

Additionally, Dan Campbell moved his projected time of return from a “conservative” November estimate to October.
Still sidelined
- RB Sione Vaki (hamstring)
- DT Roy Lopez (foot)
- EDGE Al-Quadin Muhammad (?)
- LB Alex Anzalone (hamstring)
- CB Ennis Rakestraw (chest)
These five remain out. No new updates for any of these players.
New absences/injuries:
- WR Tim Patrick
- DT Tyleik Williams
- S Ian Kennelly
Patrick was fully suited up to practice, but he spent most of the time working with a trainer. He was running at a good pace on the hill, but I did not see him take part in any team drills.
Williams was a complete absence. I did not see any signs of injury during Thursday’s practice, so there is no current explanation for him missing Friday. It’s worth noting he did do a media session after Thursday’s practice, and even said he was feeling physically great, as it pertained to the injury that had him limited in the spring.
“I’m 100 percent. I’m full-go. I’m perfectly fine,” Williams said.
Could be a personal day for the Lions’ first-round pick.
Returns to practice
- LB Derrick Barnes
- CB Terrion Arnold
As previously reported, Barnes and Arnold practiced despite leaving Thursday early. Both appeared to take on a full workload with no limitations.
