Report: Jahmyr Gibbs Suffers Hamstring Injury, Doesn’t Return To Practice
Speaking in general terms, hamstring injuries are one of the worst things that could happen to a running back. While they’re rarely season-ending ailments, they tend to linger long after the player returns to the field. Once again, it’s important to note that we do not know the severity of the injury as of this posting, but the Jahmyr Gibbs injury will be something to monitor moving forward.
The Detroit Lions wanted to use Jahmyr Gibbs as a featured back , but they could survive if the injury sidelines him for a portion of the regular season. Former Chicago Bears running back David Montgomery is one of the most reliable players in the league, although he lacks the same athletic ceiling as his first-round counterpart. If called upon, the veteran is more than capable of handling starting duties for what should be one of the best offenses in the league.
Gibbs originally entered the NFL as a first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Selected by the Detroit Lions, experts across the league questioned the selection due to the relative unimportance of the position combined with the presence of David Montgomery and D’Andre Swift. The Lions soon traded Swift to the Philadelphia Eagles , opening the door for Gibbs to be featured in the offense. While he began the year splitting carries with Montgomery, Gibbs finished the season with 945 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on 182 carries while helping guide the team to the NFC Championship Game.
