Detroit will be without two defensive lineman in Carolina this week.
The Detroit Lions downgraded a pair of defensive lineman to OUT on the injury report Saturday, as Da’Shawn Hand and Austin Bryant are both now slated to miss this week’s game against the Carolina Panthers .
Hand was limited in practice this week with a groin injury. The defensive tackle has played in all nine games this season, racking up 16 combined tackles and a forced fumble. He has struggled with injuries in his young career, though, missing large portions of his sophomore season in 2019.
Bryant has also struggled with injuries in his young career. He only played four games in his rookie season after he was selected in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL draft . He started this season on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, before finally returning in Week 9. Now in Week 11 he will be unavailable once again.
The injuries leave Detroit shorthanded on the defensive line, a position where they have already had struggles this season. Expect rookie standout John Penisini to play a larger role in their absence, and defensive tackle Frank Heron could be a candidate to get added to the active roster from the practice squad.
