Penei Sewell exited the Detroit Lions’ final training camp practice with an apparent foot injury.
While the Detroit Lions have been hit by the injury bug of late, things appeared to be tending in the right direction, and most of their star players were expected to be ready for the regular season . Unfortunately, the Lions may have one more injury obstacle to overcome, as All-Pro right tackle Penei Sewell appeared to suffer a foot injury during Wednesday’s practice.
UPDATE: A team source told Justin Rogers that Sewell is “good.”

The Lions were wrapping up their last big training camp practice before their final game of the 2024 preseason, scheduled for this Saturday against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The practice was designed to give the starters game-level prep for Week 1, as they prepare to take on the Los Angeles Rams.
“This type of day is really, this is another step to prepare these players that are playing in this Rams game, to get them physically ready for what’s coming, cause this will, for the most part, be their (preseason) game,” Campbell said in his morning press conference.
Near the end of the Lions’ first-team scrimmage, Sewell appeared to injure his foot and required assistance from trainers. He was able to gingerly exit to the bench, and continued his conversation with the training staff, but eventually exited the field and into the locker room instead.
The official word from the team post-practice was that Sewell is dealing with a foot injury.

At this time, this is the extent of what we know about Sewell’s injury, and with coach Dan Campbell not being made available to the media until after Saturday’s game, we may have to wait a bit for an update.
Sewell was replaced in the starting lineup by second-year offensive lineman Colby Sorsdal, who has been repping with the second team at right tackle all training camp. Dan Skipper, who could also be considered as a possible replacement at tackle, injured his ankle in Game 2 versus the Chiefs and was unable to practice on Wednesday—though he is expected to return next week. Rookie Giovanni Manu and newly-signed Jamarco Jones remain among the reserves.
