If you needed any further proof that Caitlin Clark’s ascension has transcended the sport of basketball, look no further than the identity of some of the people trying to get their hands on her merch.
Yesterday Clark was drafted No. 1 overall by the Indiana Fever. Readily available jerseys sold out immediately, which left one NFL legend out in the cold: Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders.
“Hey @WNBA – How do I get one of those?” Sanders wrote on X.
Sanders is considered by many to be the greatest running back of all-time. Clark is now considered by some to be perhaps the greatest women’s college basketball player of all-time.
That’s a case of greatness paying respect to greatness and fans on social media were delighted to see it:
“You should try to make a goat trade directly!!” one user suggested.
“Greatness recognizing greatness,” another wrote.
“Detroit’s G.O.A.T has entered the chat,” wrote a third.
Clark now begins her WNBA career with the Indiana Fever and is so popular that the team has had to move games to larger venues to accommodate the extra thousands of fans who are ready to pay good money to see her play.
Whether or not she’s as good in the pros as she was in college, it’s clear that expectations are sky high for her.
