Jared Goff was named NFC Offensive Player of the Month, making him the first ever Detroit Lions QB to win the award.

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff has been named NFC Offensive Player of the Month for October. According to the Lions PR Twitter account, Goff is the first ever Lions quarterback to win the award , and the first player to win it for the organization since Calvin Johnson back in 2013. (The award dates back to 1986.)

In the month of October, Goff’s numbers were absolutely ridiculous. Throwing in Goff’s “perfect” Seahawks game (technically on September 30), here’s Goff’s statline over the last four games:

70-of-83 (84.3%) for 972 yards (11.7 Y/A), 10 touchdowns, 0 INTs, 155.0 passer rating

Taking out the Seahawks game to make it purely an October statline, here’s what it looks like:

52-of-65 (80.0%) for 680 yards (10.5 Y/A), 8 TDs, 0 INTs, 149.8 passer rating

For the entire season, Goff now ranks second in yards per attempt (9.39), second in passer rating (115.3), and first in completion percentage (74.1).

This record-breaking stretch may be surprising to a lot of people, but one person who isn’t surprised is coach Dan Campbell.

“I guess I’m just not surprised, I guess is the best way to say it,” Campbell said last week. “I hear these numbers and I’m just like, ‘Yeah, he’s playing good. He’s a good quarterback.’ So, I don’t really see this like I’m blown away. I expect that from him.

“He’s playing at a high level and there’s so many little things that he does. We put a ton on his plate this week (vs. Vikings). We put a ton mentally. We asked him to do so much, particularly on third down, because this is such a unique defensive scheme that we faced and the amount of pressure, and he handled it so good. Because of that, that helps the rest of the team, that helps the rest of the offense perform at a high level.”

Last month, Aidan Hutchinson won NFC Defensive Player of the Month . That means for just the second time in franchise history the Lions have had an Offensive and Defensive Player of the Month. The only other time it happened was with Barry Sanders and Ray Crockett back in 1991.
