Former Detroit Lions DT Isaiah Buggs is in even more legal trouble and could be booked in jail for the third time this offseason.
Former Detroit Lions and current Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs was arrested this weekend on charges of second-degree domestic violence and second-degree burglary. He was released on Monday, but he could be going right back.
This is the second time Buggs has been arrested this offseason. Back in May, police charged Buggs with second-degree animal cruelty after two dogs at his residence were found abandoned and neglected. One of those dogs was eventually euthanized. On May 30, Buggs turned himself in and was released after posting bond.
According to AL.com, prosecutors in the case have now revoked Buggs’ bond from the animal cruelty charges , as one of the conditions of the bond was to not commit any new crimes. The request was granted on Monday and the county district judge has ordered Buggs to be held without bond. As of the publishing of this article, Buggs has not yet been booked back.
Currently, there are no public details on Buggs’ latest incident other than it was the result of Tuscaloosa officers responding to a 911 call placed at 5:28 a.m. Sunday morning.
After the animal cruelty charge, Buggs’ agent denied the charges against his client and accused the Tuscaloosa Police Department of a concerted effort to attack Buggs’ character.
“Furthermore, we believe the City of Tuscaloosa’s decision to file the charges today is part of a concerted effort by the city of Tuscaloosa and its Police Department to besmirch Mr. Buggs’ name and reputation as part of an on-going subversive campaign to force the close of his local business Kings Hookah Lounge,” the statement wrote.
The Lions waived Buggs late last season after he had fallen down the depth chart and Detroit needed roster spots available to return players from injury. Buggs then signed to the Chiefs practice squad and was along for the ride for their Super Bowl run, although he did not make any game appearances for his new team.
Buggs signed a futures deal with the Chiefs this offseason. The Chiefs have yet to make a statement on Buggs’ legal situation.
